Every time we start a new year, soothsayers can't seem to stop predicting all those doomsday rhetoricals. What we really need are good news and good deeds. But how do we start the new year on the right foot? So here are the following tips that you can try to make a difference on your new year and especially on your new life.
1. General Clean Up
The holidays had just passed. There's so much trash around. It's a stockpile. Start with the home and yard clean-up.
Think environmental. By sorting your garbage, there is a possibility that you can reduce the amount of waste products you dump by as much as 95 percent. You read me right; only five percent of our garbage are truly, utterly useless. Domestic garbage can be generally segregated into organic and inorganic kind. For organic garbage such as fruit peels, food scraps, dry leaves and the likes, you can dispose them quite easily, especially if you have a big enough backyard. You can convert them into compost-pit fertilizers.
Money in trash. Most inorganic garbage like plastics, papers, bottles, tin cans and metals such as aluminum, copper and iron, on the other hand, can be recycled. Segregate each of these items and contact junk shops and biotech recycling plants, which buy such items. You will be surprised how much money there are in your trash. Convince your entire neighborhood to do the same.
Be orderly and systematic. If there are still unwanted trash left, put the biodegradable ones in a green-colored container and the non-biodegradables in a black container (just like in the TV commercials). If everyone would do the aforementioned suggestions, the government as well as the public wouldn't have any more recurring headaches on garbage.
2. Prepare For The Next Holidays
Time sees to be a little faster nowadays. It has indeed become a fast-pace world. With supercomputers and biotechnology turbo-charging our world into this millennium, before you know it, Christmas is again around the corner.
Be frugal.Do not discard used gift-wrappers and cartons especially when they are still intact. Don't believe that it's bad luck to throw them away (luck has nothing to do with it). Roll the gift-wrappers and preserve them together with the cartons, for next year's use. The same can be done with other Christmas items.
After-holiday sales. If you still have leftover budget or you have suddenly got enough cash from gifts and delayed bonuses, go to an after-holiday sales. Chances are, the items you'll find there will be much cheaper - perfect for gifts on next year's Yuletide celebration.
3. Start Anew, Fresh And Confident
Look, it's like a new sunrise unfolding before your eyes. You've made it; it's a new year. We haven't seen teleportation, self-fitting shoes or androids, but that would be coming soon. Don't think material. Be spiritual this time.
Have a new outlook. It's about time to change your old, bad habits. This time, when you make a New Year resolution, make it happen. It's a way of refreshening up after years of dilemma. Don't be a hopeless case.
Read the Bible. How many times have you read the Holy Scriptures from cover to cover - without skipping a chapter or a verse? If your answer is never, then it's about time you start. God gave you a lifetime to read His words. Don't rely on others reading it for you. If you read it and learn from it, then it's God wisdom not someone else's interpretation. Be thankful that you've reach this far - read and have wisdom.
Pray for forgiveness, thanks and peace. As it was written in Matthew 6:6, go to your room, close the door, kneel and pray to the Almighty God. Ask for forgiveness for all and whatever sins you have committed, thank Him for His mercy and love, and pray solemnly for peace, unity and progress for all mankind.
Cheer up and be yourself.Live a clean and healthy life. In today's world it's certainly is difficult, but no one is forbidden to try. Cleanse your heart and you will perceive all things right. Cleanse your mind and you will have unwavering confidence.
4. Don't Fear The Future
We are bothered by our conscience by things we cannot face squarely. Doomsayers are saying all sorts of adversities, there are predictions here and there, scientists and world leaders are ringing the alarms over the ozone layer, forest destruction, depleting food and water supplies, runaway asteroids, black holes and what have you.
Open up to the world. If we really want our fear to go away, then we must face the cause of the fear head-on. As the song goes, "fear is only in the mind."
Do the fight thing. We fear the things in our mind, the uncertainties, the skeletons in our closets, the hidden sin, the perturbed conscience, the dastard acts, and the unforgettable grim experience. You know what to do, do it. We fear for our survival because our environment, the Earth as a whole, is deteriorating ever so rapidly. You know what to do, do it.
Have faith. We fear the unknown, all those prophesied disasters and chaos. We can't do anything much about earthquakes and a rogue meteor slamming into earth, and we certainly can't do anything about black holes. But there is an omnipotent hand above all things tangible or not. God's will be done. Amen!
